George Avalos OBITUARY

George “Pete” Avalos Feb.17, 1934 – Feb. 26, 2013 Resident of Pinole Pete passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Feb. 26, 2013 after suffering a Heart Attack. Pete was born in Richmond, CA, and has resided in Pinole since 1965, where he worked for Veriflo, Beckman Instruments and after 20+ years retired from BART in 1996. Pete loved to run competing in many local races and running in Oakland ½ Marathon in 1984 only 6 months after his quadruple bypass. Pete was fortunate enough to carry the Olympic Torch in 1984, one of his greatest accomplishments. Pete loved to dance, fish and travel. He enjoyed taking Cruises with his Wife, family and friends. He also enjoyed his weekend senior trips to local casinos. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara Avalos, daughter Theresa Avalos Garcia and husband Dan, Grandchildren Gary Winnie & Krystina Winnie, and Great Grandson Anthony Winnie, Aunt Carmen Amezquita, Brothers Joe and Tony Avalos and Sister Dolores Lopez. Family and Friends are invited to attend the Visitation/Rosary which will be held Tuesday March 5, 3-7pm at St. Joseph Cemetery, 2540 Church Lane, San Pablo, CA, and the Funeral Mass which will be held Wednesday March 6, 2013 1pm at St Joseph Church, 837 Tennent Ave, Pinole, CA and entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 2540 Church Lane, San Pablo, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
